Herbert R. Lee Jr., 36, of Bridgeton, was shot to death July 30 while trying to break up a fight at Maplewood Gardens apartments. He was survived by six children, a fiancée and a sister.

Police identified the shooter as Ryan A. Askins, 29, of Bridgeton, who remains at large. Another armed man involved in the fight was charged with a weapons offense.

Cumberland County Prosecutor confirmed Monday, Oct. 10 with Daily Voice that the search for Askins is ongoing.

Lee’s sister, LeCorsha Hyman, told NJ Advance Media that she doesn’t think her brother knew Askins. The family thinks that Lee was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, the outlet said.
